I'm Kaitlin

hey!

A question we get asked a lot by our readers and clients is, how much should I budget for my wedding flowers. In this post, we are going to get real with you about the overall costs (why it cost the amount it does), what you should know and how we can avoid you to have that sticker shock of the true cost of flowers.

Throughout the year, we get flooded with inquiries for our floral services. We find that most of our clients are super savvy when it comes to the internet. I’m not going to pretend that I don’t know that you checked us out on the web, read our reviews. However, we get that this is most likely your first time ever having to buy wedding flowers, and you truly might not know how much it will actually cost. As florists, we have businesses to run and for us to produce our amazing flowers, it cost us money. While I would LOVE to be able to give you free flowers, I would end up going bankrupt— we don’t want that either.

Quick Story-
Recently, I had a bride contact us and sent us a ton of inspiration photos — including a floral hanging installation, giant alter piece, bouquets, and boutonnieres for a large bridal party, floral crowns, many corsages, full garlands for farm tables to be adorned with tons of flowers–imagine flowers, flowers, and more flowers everywhere you looked. She wanted to know–how much will this cost with the note of (ps. I love peonies). Okay, no problem, I got you! We figured out how much our floral cost, hard good cost, labor and time, insurance cost, mileage, and time for us to install. I went back with an 8k+ proposal based on her images. Yes, you read that right, 8,000 American dollars. You might be reading this –slightly panicking– thinking, “Is this how much flowers cost?” The answer–maybe. Do you think that was what she was expecting?

If you guessed–helll nahhh— then you are right on the money!

If you are inquiring and tell us you love peonies and roses and all things beautiful *yet expensive*, I don’t want you getting a quote being completely shocked that it is going to cost you a pretty penny. I usually tell my planning clients that we budget between 10-20% of your total budget for flowers. If you are like the woman above, I hope you have a healthy budget, or we can scale back to make something work for you to stay within your budget.

Tips For Getting The Best Quote for Wedding Flowers:

1. Be upfront with your florist.
Know how much that 10-20% of your budget equates to. If you know going into inquiring that you have a $5,000 budget, great! You have plenty of options. On the same spectrum, if you have a $1,500 budget and you are thinking you want the super lush wedding with tons of blooms, then girlfriend, you need to reallocate part of your budget.

2. Know your Style
There are tons of different floral styles: Traditional, Romantic, Modern, BoHo, Rustic… knowing your style will help your florist get an idea of what you are looking for which will help them accurately price it out to you. Just like we don’t want you surprised, we also don’t want to be surprised by your expectation of having a ton of blooms when we quoted you a price for something in the middle. This helps us be super clear with expectations.

Check out our blog post {here} on the different styles of florals to help give you a clear direction to your wedding florist!

3. Know your Numbers
Let us know how many of each item you are looking for a price. Something super helpful to do is to fill out or floral guide so you can visualize how many bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres..etc. you will need for your wedding.
